Therapy or Coaching?
Many people wonder whether therapy or coaching is the better fit. While there is some overlap, they are designed to serve different purposes.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy can help if you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, trauma, chronic stress, or other emotional challenges that are affecting your well-being.
Therapy offers a safe, supportive space to better understand yourself, heal emotional wounds, develop healthier patterns, and experience lasting change. Together, we’ll explore the thoughts, emotions, experiences, and patterns that may be contributing to your current challenges while helping you build greater resilience, self-awareness, and emotional well-being.
Although therapy often includes understanding the past, it isn’t limited to the past. Therapy can also help you clarify what you want moving forward, strengthen your relationships, and create a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
Coaching
Coaching is designed for people who are emotionally healthy and functioning well but are ready to move toward a new vision for their lives.
You may be considering a career change, navigating a life transition, wanting greater clarity and confidence, or feeling called to create something new. Coaching focuses on helping you clarify your goals, identify what may be getting in the way, and take meaningful steps toward the future you want to create.
Rather than diagnosing or treating mental health conditions, coaching emphasizes growth, possibility, self-discovery, and purposeful action.
Where They Overlap
Both therapy and coaching can help you become more aware of your patterns, strengthen your relationship with yourself, and create positive, lasting change.
In both, I use thoughtful dialogue, transformative questions, mindfulness, somatic awareness, and experiential approaches to help you reconnect with your own wisdom, resilience, and capacity for growth.
The primary difference is the focus:
- Therapy helps you heal, understand, and resolve emotional difficulties while building a stronger foundation for well-being.
- Coaching helps you clarify your vision, expand your possibilities, and move confidently toward the life you want to create.
Not Sure Which Is Right for You?
You don’t have to decide on your own.
I’d be happy to speak with you about your goals and help determine whether psychotherapy or coaching is the best fit for your current needs.
